With Cabernet Sauvignon as the base of the blend, our 2014 vintage is dense in color with the classic aromas of black cherry, black currant and blackberry. Broad, velvety tannins and rich concentrated flavors of ripe berries with dark chocolate-mint are in perfect balance with hints of savory oak from 24 months of aging in predominately French barrels. It is an expressive wine with a smooth palate of soft dark fruit, depth of flavors and a lasting finish.

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Malbec, 12% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot

Certified Lodi Rules for Sustainable Winegrowing

By knowing the strengths of each vineyard we distinguish which blocks are ideal for Midnight Reserve. The Cabernet Sauvignon portion of the 2014 vintage is from four vineyards: River Ranch, Twin Oaks, Railroad, Thirty-Eight. Our Malbec was harvested at Jahant Woods II and Rose II, the Petit Verdot is from the River Ranch in the heart of the Lodi Appellation, and both the Merlot and Cabernet Franc came from Miller Vineyard in the Clarksburg Appellation.
After a cold snap in December 2013, the 2014 growing season transitioned to a mild winter and spring. With the current drought conditions we welcomed the late February and early March rains that were well-timed and kept the vines growing. Consistent sunny weather from mid-March on led to early bud break in the vineyards as temperatures rose. A few weeks of warm weather in the late summer months allowed the winegrapes to ripen early, making 2014 one of the earliest harvests on record. On the vine, most varietals had loose clusters that resulted in even veraison, bringing about uniform ripening which is necessary for winegrapes to develop great flavors and color. With average yields and great quality, the 2014 season produced another unique vintage.
